Bible Sabbath/Sunday

13 07 2007

This weekend is the Bible Society’s Bible Sabbath/Sunday. Around 3000 churches in New Zealand will hopefully be using our resources and making the Bible the focus of the service. I was interviewed on radio the other day about it and the DJs first comment was, nat-bible-sunday.jpg‘shouldn’t every Sunday be Bible Sunday!?’ AMEN TO THAT! Actually the fact we need something like this indicates the sad state of the churches relationship to the Bible. So we in the Bible Society take this opportunity to highlight the need to return to the Bible but also, the huge need for Bibles overseas. In particular we are focusing on the need for Bibles in Russia. (Click the image on the left for more information.)

So I am preaching in three churches this weekend: E-Street, a very large congregation; the Anglican Cathedral in Wellington and… the Anglican Cathedral in Second Life! Yes the very first service being held is this weekend (well early monday morning for me!). And I will be preaching the same message in all three services: Colossians 3:1-2:

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

I will be looking at how we practically achieve this; and one key way is through engaging with the Bible, which provides perspective to the challenges that befall us.

Also check out the very cool vid below that has been made for this weekend (make sure your sound is turned up!)…
